2D in 4D / New student work.

Foundation level experiment with time-based media.

Above: Mallory, ‘No More Running’ (Music: Animal Collective). These experimental short films are an extension of an introductory photography and booklet assignment from my foundation level class here at MCAD. It’s always a delight to work with first year students and this Fall has proved to be no exception. The content is derived from a series of photographs each student developed relating to their new environment and focusing on aspects of found color.

Above: Taylor, live from the ‘Minneap’ (Music: Ice Cold). A series of booklets detailing the resulting narrative preceded the move to this time-based environment. The relatively static yet naturally narrative environment of the booklets produced a rough structure for the short films.

Above: Elise, Secret Garden (Music: Patrick Wolf). Students were free to select some form of sound element and most chose a song to help structure their pieces. We held two critique sessions developing these and also returned to the printed project with new information developed in the shorts. As in the past, this group responded strongly to both projects and produced some compelling work. My sincere thanks for their efforts!
