This problem is partially distilled from Romano Hänni‘s exhaustive and inspirational approach (Das Bild in der Zeitung, 2006), though our problem was solved with pencil, ruler, and sharpie. Thanks to the New York Times for supplying MCAD and other schools with free student editions each and every week.

A wax-on, wax-off way (tee-hee) of understanding Das Grid, this initial problem led to several other applications. For what is graphic design and typography without human care? What better way to begin an intimate relationship than through touch?
