Blanka + Farrow

Above: Via Blanka in London, UK, a seminal Factory Records (FAC)
poster by Mark Farrow finds new life.

Quoting designer Farrow in the Blanka announcement: “We designed this poster to celebrate the 15th birthday of the Hacienda.” Farrow explains, “We had no idea at the time that it would be the club’s last. The code 51 15 25 05 97 (Fac 51 is 15 on 25 05 97) was printed in a reflective ink onto a grey background which rendered it almost invisible in daylight. The poster only came to life at night under the glare of car headlights.
Our reasoning being that the message was only important to people who were out
after dark.”

The Blanka site also features several detailed photographs of the production.

Above: All FAC roads lead to Joy Division, above, Transmission, BBC 1979. FAC 13, je pense. Below FAC 1, the first Peter Saville poster for Tony Wilson (famously late). Trailer for the recently released Joy Division film here.
