Dylan C. Lathrop writes: Ted Leo and the Pharmacists got together in a basement in New Jersey on September 5th to record two new original songs and cover two tracks for this digital only EP, Rapid Release. All proceeds from this release are going to Democracy Now! as well as the Minnesota chapter of Food Not Bombs.
Considering that this blog—among many others—was covering up to the moment goings-ons in St. Paul (including the arrest of Monsieur Brandt), I felt it best to pass along the information on what Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are doing to raise awareness as well as help those who were harmed.
In Leo’s liner notes for Rapid Release, he writes:
“The surveillance, preemptive detention, arrest, and beating of journalists, protesters, and watchdogs by the St. Paul police department, the Ramsey County sheriff’s department, and the FBI was so egregious that it couldn’t be allowed to pass
He also goes on to state:
“But real people were hurt in St. Paul, and real people have bills to pay, and real people need funding to continue their good works. We (the band and I) were all feeling these events as deeply as we could from our 1200 mile remove, and so as not to feel entirely powerless, and in an attempt to contribute SOMETHING to that continuation of those good works…”
There is eloquence to Ted Leo, but also pure DIY punk rock quality to what he says and does. The EP takes only a minimum $4.00 donation and can be downloaded from TL/Rx’s labe, Touch and Go, right here.
Worth your time, ears and money. Many happy returns!
