Die Kopie besiegt das Original.

The copy defeats the original.

Holland 1:3 Russia

A stunning concept in these days of memes and viruses. The Dutch national side faced a younger-leaner version of themselves in Russia, during this stirring quarter-final fixture. Gus Hiddink‘s (second from left), the legendary Dutch coach of the Russian national team, version of total football won tonight, and there can be no question.

Even Marco van Basten, Holland’s equally legendary player-cum-manager, had to admit his team just could not run with them.

Above: From Bild, Khalid Boulahrouz, center, during the singing of the Dutch national anthem, Holland vs. Russia. On a more sober note, Boulahrouz lost a daughter just two days prior to this game, and in his wife’s honor, the entire Dutch national team wore a black armband, in memoriam.

Somehow, ten thousand years seem marked on his face. Hup Holland! Mabrouk, Rus!

Boula-Boula-Boulahrouz!
