Kindra Murphy / US Route 12

A growing collection of vernacular treasure.

Above: Kindra Murphy, from her US Route 12 project. One of many inspiring colleagues at MCAD, Kindra recently introduced us to her sabbatical research, one small part of which is this fascinating investigation of the vernacular. She has started releasing these carefully preserved tidbits of hand-lettered signs that punctuate this fabled route. US Route 12 begins in Grays Harbor, WA, and concludes in Detroit, MI. Thus far, she has started detailing finds in Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.

Pay a visit, you will enjoy these lovely gems as well as Kindra’s careful eye and sense of humor. For more, see Kindra’s From There, her stunning collection of design ephemera on Flickr, and her delightful ‘old blog‘.
